Plan wall panels for a TV wall around the actual television and mount, not a styled reference photo. Record the screen size, bracket footprint, furniture, outlets and cable access on one measured elevation. Then overlay the exact panel dimensions and edge details. Keep the television support, ventilation and electrical work tied to the equipment manuals and the wall's real construction.
This guide covers planning before purchase. Decorative panels vary in thickness, backing, module size and mounting method. Miami Walls & Decor is preparing bamboo wall panels as a future category, but its product specifications and availability are not public yet. Unknown fields stay on the project checklist until the exact listing and technical documents answer them.
If you are still comparing surface types, read the bamboo wall panels versus wallpaper guide. The wallpaper and wall panels planning guide addresses two finishes in the same room.
Start with the television record
Write down the exact TV model, its width, height, depth and weight, plus the wall-mount model. Add the mount's wall-plate dimensions, extension or tilt range, required fasteners and installation instructions. A diagonal screen size alone does not describe the rectangle that must fit the elevation.
List the equipment that needs a place on or near the wall. A soundbar, game console, streaming box or router may change the screen height, cabinet position and cable route. Record any device that needs ventilation or routine access rather than assuming it can be hidden behind fixed panels.
VESA's Flat Display Mounting Interface standard covers the mounting interface used by compatible displays and brackets. It does not replace the instructions for the selected television, mount or wall. Match the two products first, then have the support method checked against the actual wall.
Draw the wall as an elevation
Measure the wall width and height at more than one point. Older walls, trim and floors may not be perfectly square. Mark the ceiling, floor and both corners, followed by doors, windows, baseboards and crown molding.
Add every interruption that affects the panel field:
- outlets, switches and data ports;
- vents, returns and thermostats;
- shelves, cabinets and access panels;
- door or window casing;
- the television mount and cable exit points.
Use the same reference corner for every horizontal measurement. Note the height of each item from the finished floor. Photograph the wall straight on and keep the elevation with the product record.
Set the TV position from the room
Check the screen from the seats people actually use. Painter's tape can mark the TV outline and the proposed panel boundary without committing to a cut. Look from the main seat, the room entrance and any side view where the panel thickness or edge will be visible.
Place the real console, soundbar and nearby furniture on the sketch. A centered TV can still look off balance when a cabinet, doorway or partial panel field shifts the visible wall. Resolve the screen position before making the panel pattern symmetrical around it.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises mounting flat-screen televisions to a wall or anchoring them and following the manufacturer's instructions. Treat the television support as a separate safety decision. A decorative panel face is not evidence that it can carry the TV or the bracket.
Choose the panel boundary
Decide whether panels will cover the full wall, form a centered field behind the screen or stop at a cabinet or architectural edge. Draw that boundary in a different color from the TV and furniture.
A partial-width field needs deliberate side edges. Check whether the selected system offers a finished edge, trim piece or approved cut detail. For a full wall, resolve both corners and the meeting point at the ceiling and baseboard. The exact product sheet should control those details.
The textured accent wall guide explains how relief and side light change the way a surface reads. Use a physical sample on this wall before choosing the final boundary.
Overlay the exact panel grid
Do not calculate quantity from a generic panel size. Record the sellable module's width and height, its usable face width, joint or overlap detail, direction and the edges that may be cut. A slatted module, rigid sheet and interlocking tile can produce different joint positions on the same wall.
Draw each module across the elevation. Check the first and last pieces, the cuts around the television and the remaining strips beside outlets or trim. If the layout leaves a very narrow visible piece, ask whether the starting point or panel field can shift without creating a worse edge elsewhere.
The quantity calculation comes after the grid is approved. Divide the planned coverage by the product's usable module dimensions and round up to whole sellable units. Ask the seller how to account for joints, directional grain, unusable offcuts, damaged pieces and future repairs. There is no universal extra percentage for every panel system.
Record wall depth and access
Panel thickness changes the front face of the wall. A backing, batten or other approved mounting assembly may add more depth. Record the total build-up from the original wall to the finished face, then compare it with the bracket, outlet covers, trim, cabinet top and any door swing nearby.
Keep cable connections and devices reachable. The TV manual and equipment instructions control ventilation and clearance. Do not seal a power supply, connector or service point behind a fixed decorative surface unless the approved design provides access.
LG's general wall-mounting support notes that the wall type and installation environment can restrict the method. Use the manual for the exact TV and bracket. Fixed electrical changes, concealed services and structural support should be reviewed by the appropriate qualified trade before panels cover the wall.
Test the sample beside a dark screen
Place the panel sample where the finished field will sit. View it with the television off, since the black screen can make nearby color and contrast feel different. Repeat the check in daylight and under the room lamps.
Look at the sample from the sofa and from the side. Relief creates shadows, and joints may become more visible from an angle. Compare the sample with the cabinet, flooring and trim that will remain. A product rendering cannot confirm the real finish, edge, thickness or color under your lights.
TV wall panel planning checklist
- Record the exact television and mount models, dimensions, weight and instructions.
- Draw the wall from one reference corner and mark every opening, trim line and fixed device.
- Add the normal viewing position, cabinet, soundbar and other equipment.
- Tape the screen and proposed panel boundary on the wall.
- Choose full-wall or partial coverage and resolve visible edges.
- Add the exact panel grid, usable module size, joints and allowable cuts.
- Confirm the complete wall build-up and bracket relationship.
- Plan cable access, ventilation and service points from the equipment manuals.
- Review support, concealed services and electrical work with the appropriate trade.
- Approve quantity only after the seller checks the final elevation and product record.
Frequently asked questions
Can a TV mount attach directly to decorative wall panels?
Do not assume the decorative finish can carry the television. Follow the TV and bracket instructions, verify the wall or approved support assembly, and have the fixing method checked for the exact project.
Should wall panels continue behind the TV?
They can if the approved layout preserves the mount, required clearances, cables and future access. Draw the bracket footprint and connection points before deciding where panels continue or stop.
How many extra wall panels should I order?
There is no reliable universal percentage. The allowance depends on module dimensions, joints, direction, cuts, damage policy and whether offcuts can be reused. Ask the seller to check the completed grid.
Can bamboo wall panels be used for a TV wall?
That depends on the exact panel construction, dimensions, mounting instructions and project conditions. Miami Walls bamboo-panel specifications are not public yet, so no product-specific use claim can be made today.
Do slat or acoustic panels improve TV sound?
Visual grooves or a soft backing do not prove an acoustic result. Request a test report for the exact panel and mounting assembly before treating sound performance as part of the decision.
What should be ready before I order panels?
Keep the measured wall elevation, TV and bracket records, equipment list, panel technical sheet, sample, edge details, quantity check and written installation questions together. Resolve any missing support or access detail before purchase.
