The Miami Walls Wallpaper Signals Index turns one consistent Google Trends comparison into two original measures: a style lifecycle score and a state-by-state over-index. It is a directional research tool—not a sales report or a claim about what every designer prefers.
What changed in this release?
The five tracked searches all cooled after a broad spring 2026 spike. Botanical wallpaper is the only term still above the same eight-week period a year earlier: +55.6% year over year, even though its latest eight-week average is 50.0% below the previous eight weeks.
That combination matters. It suggests botanical interest is holding a stronger annual base while short-term attention normalizes. We label it Cooling, not Declining. Under our rules, Declining requires two consecutive monthly releases with negative short-term and year-over-year movement.

Momentum is a 0–100 blend of recent eight-week change, year-over-year change, and the latest 26-week slope. Durability blends persistence above the five-year median, lower volatility, and geographic breadth. These are Miami Walls calculations, not Google metrics.
America’s wallpaper style over-index
The state signal asks a narrower question: which tracked style takes a larger share in that jurisdiction than it does nationally inside the same five-style panel? It does not name a state’s favorite wallpaper or estimate sales.

How the index is calculated
We compare the exact U.S. Web Search terms floral wallpaper, botanical wallpaper, abstract wallpaper, geometric wallpaper, and tropical wallpaper over the past five years in one Google Trends request. Keeping the terms together preserves a common comparison scale.
The current incomplete week is excluded. Momentum uses 45% recent eight-week change, 35% year-over-year eight-week change, and 20% normalized 26-week slope. Durability uses 45% persistence above the five-year median, 30% inverse 52-week volatility, and 25% geographic breadth.
For the state signal, we divide each style’s state share by its national share within the same panel. A 2.09× tropical over-index in Florida means tropical takes about twice its national panel share there. It does not mean 21% of Florida residents bought tropical wallpaper.
What the data cannot tell us
Google Trends reports sampled, normalized relative interest from 0 to 100—not search counts. Low-volume terms can appear as zero, values can move when Google resamples a request, and a synchronized spike may reflect broad category behavior or a measurement effect. We do not assign a cause without another source.
The panel contains five styles, not the entire wallpaper market. Search behavior is also not the same as purchases, specifications by interior designers, or installed square footage.

How often is the lab updated?
We collect a quality-checked snapshot every Monday. A public release is scheduled for the first Monday of each month after at least three successful weekly snapshots. The next planned public release is October 5, 2026. A failed or incomplete source pull never replaces the last verified release.
Use the signals to plan a room
Trend data is a starting point, not a decorating rule. Compare the current floral wallpaper collection, botanical wallpaper collection, and wall murals. When a direction feels right, use the wallpaper calculator before ordering.
Who publishes this research?
The index is prepared and published by the Miami Walls & Decor Research Desk. The methodology, source URL, capture time, release ID, raw snapshot hash, and machine-readable files are retained with each release so future changes can be checked against the original record.
